A Warcraft turned Warhammer players review. December 8, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this game about 2 months ago. I was a Warcraft player but then I heard that they made a Warhammer game and got it. If you have ever played Warcraft you know the pains of being ganked by level 70 players at level 6.In Warhammer there is no ganking and the game is a lot less cartoony, it really feels like war. No more saving up your whole life for a mount in Warhammer they are cheaper and its easier to save up. one of the down sides is that there a lot less professions: no fishing, no blacksmithing, no mining, only trinket making, salvaging ruined equipment, butchering [not to be confused with cooking], alchemy, growing plants from seeds, and scavenging. One downside is that being new there are new patches all the time. I read one review that said all the classes are alike well thats not true all the classes have their own abilities, specialties, and looks [who can say the floating magus and the red, spike haired bright wizard are alike]. Overall this a lot like a serious Warcraft.
Pleasantly Surprised December 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been putting off playing WAR since I tried it in beta and hated the graphics and lag. Over black Friday, I saw that Amazon was selling this game for $11 bucks so I figured what the heck I'll try it for that price. If it sucks I wont be out a ton of money. Well... I installed it and was like... this isn't the game I played in Beta. This is GOOD!. So much seems to have changed. The graphics are awesome now! Game play is smooth and lag free and there are a ton of quests. I think they really got something that's a sleeper here. WAR had such a bad wrap on release. Wrath of the Lich King was released and WoW lovers bashed WAR. But I can tell you im an old WoW head myself. And this game has alot to offer over WoW. So if you are on the fence about it, or are looking for an alternative to WoW, I say pick it up. If you have the same reaction as I did you will find yourself getting lost among the troops and carnage that is WAR.
Very good MMO December 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I will start off by saying this. I probley would have never played this game if WOW would have installed on my computer. I kept getting installation errors. Now Iam glad that WOW didnt install. This game in my opinion has everything that is good in WOW and adds to it. There will be many WOW compararisons through out, although this is not a bad thing at all. The graphics in this game are really good. The sound is nice. But the game play is where it really shines. There is enough PvE in this game to keep people occupied while waiting to do the scenarios. I have only been playing for about a week now and Iam just now realizing the scope this game has. As you get higher in levels you will notice that PvP becomes more complex, using seige weapons, capturing keeps (towns), and much much more. I do have a few complaints that will get better (in theory) as the game ages. There are usally long wait times to get into the scenarios. Not the most population dense servers. A few other things that come up when Iam playing but cant think of at this time. I think these are minor things will be fixed once more people start playing. My review is kinda sporatic but ehh who cares. To sum things up if you like WOW you would probley like this game and if your looking to get into these types of games would be a good one. Another side note is people in WAR are generally nicer than in WOW.
Wow. Not what I expected........... December 3, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I honestly was expecting this game to be about PVP combat. What I found is that it really is about RVR, which means doing scenarios, public quests and dungeons to get your end-game gear. The UI is buggy and slow. Character movement is very very slow and it almost feels like you are underwater. The abilities are all very plain in that they all basically seem to do the same thing for each profession, e.g. 4 DOT abilites and a spammable insta-damage ability.
Basically, if you are a big PVP player this is probably not going to be the game you want. They are working on it, supposedly, so it may get better with time. I'm not optimistic though. I predict a Tabula Rasa future.
Software from hell December 3, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This game will chew your computer up and spit it out. It's great in concept but its still in beta. They put it on the market too early. You can expect to crash to desktop at least a few times a week. Every time they introduce a patch, there are more bugs.
There is very little end game content, and it takes no time to get to end game. I think they have a good design, but unfortunately they released it before it was ready maybe. I have a quad core with four gigs of RAM, it crashes. It crashes on most everyone in the guild at one time or another. Should I say - I don't know anyone who is problem free with this game. The player base is diminishing, and with good reason. The software is not stable. Great idea, too. I'm sad.
Added note: If you do not like PVP then keep looking. This game is not a solo-able game, and not heavy on lore and role playing. Mostly pvp.
